Hello,
I'm looking for real horror movies that are gory and truly scary, the REAL ones. For me, the scariest is The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), that's the bomb. So I'm making a list for you to see what I've watched:

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Saw 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
The Hills Have Eyes 1 and 2

13 Ghosts (not well-known but super scary)

Personally, if I were you, I wouldn't get attached to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre saga because they aren't scary, the story is worthless... Basically, I've never liked it. Real horror films depend on gore or creepy scenes.
There are many scary movies if you watch them alone, of course, like The Blair Witch Project; [Rec] and Drag Me to Hell or older films like The Sixth Sense; Amityville and The Grudge/The Ring. (I mean alone ^^)
For me, movies don't do anything, as I started watching my very first horror movie at the age of 7, my horror movie hero, Freddy Krueger. I watched "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and I personally fell asleep and started watching his series. Then several horror films.
Anyway, enough talking.
The good gory films to watch are, for me personally:
- Martyrs; Wolf Creek; [Rec]; Drag Me to Hell; The Ruins; Eden Lake; Slaughter Night; Hostel 1&2; House of Wax; The House of Horror and The Descent !!
Then the French films, but seriously I would say they are better made than American or Spanish films:
- Inside; High Tension; The Blair Witch Project; Frontière(s). These films are so well made that I wanted to watch them several times, the actors are well-trained and the story flows well. I loved it.
Those who aren't too fond of horror films or rather think they are really scary:
- Scream; I Know What You Did Last Summer; Deep Blue Sea; The Ring; The Grudge; The Eye; Texas Chainsaw Massacre; Hills Have Eyes 1&2; (I think they are rubbish.)
I suggest you watch several other super movies:
- Room 1408; The Last House on the Left; Mirrors; Unburn; Pulse 1,2&3; Dawn of the Dead; Diary Of the Dead; Creep; Fear on the Line; Catacombs. In any case, there are tons.
In case you noticed, I didn't list the Saw saga. Why? Because I didn't like it, the story is completely zero, nothing to do with it. It's always the same thing and it's disappointing! However, I agree that it's gory but nothing more.
Then the good horror and comedy films to watch are:
- Braindead; Shaun of the Dead; Severance; Jeepers Creepers.
The horror film heroes to watch, as you know, my fan horror movie hero is Freddy Krueger. Otherwise, I also like Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th and the one from 2009) and I would add the Halloween saga because I really loved the one from 2007, where we see the real Michael Myers, the bloody killer without hatred! The story worked well, and I liked his youth; overall, he is perfect. I won't add the Hellraisers saga because I don't like it.
There you go, it's up to you to judge me.

For me, the goriest ones are not necessarily the scariest.
Martyrs is very gory, especially the ending, but it's not necessarily scary; what's gory is the thought that it's a story that could be real.
As for the films that are scary, yes, there are the traditional ones like Scream, Hostel, Halloween, but for me, they make me laugh more than anything else. I recently watched "The Last House on the Left" and it was honestly good. I recommend it.

as for me, I saw "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" by Tobe Hooper, which dates back to 1974. That one is scary too!!

For me, both The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies are brilliant, the one by Tobe Hooper and the remake.
Strangely enough, I have a slight preference for the remake.
Otherwise, there's also: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
It's pure gore, and even though the story isn’t very well put together in my opinion, you can't help but be glued to the screen with so much blood ^^
I would like to mention: The Silence of the Lambs, but far from being gory, what scared me in this film was the scene with the infrared glasses (for those who have seen it ^^).
If any other films come to mind, I'll let you know.

Personally, I think that the chainsaw massacres are more gory than they are scary. There are plenty of movies that are really scary, for example, Rec 1, Rec 2, Paranormal Activity, or even The Sixth Sense, The Shining, The Exorcist, etc.
Well, it would be good for movies like "Le Cercle" and "The Grudge" to mention whether it's better to watch the Japanese version rather than the American one; the American "The Grudge 2" is really terrible. "Dark Water," the Japanese version, is the only one that genuinely scares you, but let's say there's a little scene that I'm sure will make everyone jump. However, if the whole movie doesn't freak you out, the American version is more of a drama than a horror film.
As for "Martyrs," I saw that an internet user didn't classify it as a French film, whereas the director and all the actors are. This film is truly incredible. And then for the classic: "The Shining." You get freaked out every time, you know everything, all the scenes, you've even read the novella—damn, this movie will always scare the shit out of you, except for the elevator scene; the visual evolution has made it look too much like grenadine syrup.
