Hi everyone, I sincerely hope you’ll be able to help me because I’m seriously starting to tear my hair out…
Here’s my problem: I’d like to download MSN Messenger for Mac OS 9.2.2 but I only have Mac OS 9.1.1. I downloaded from Apple the method to upgrade my OS, but when I try to install 9.2.2, it tells me “this software cannot be installed over this localized copy of mac OS.” Why??? I don’t understand, help me…
I can also select “Software Update,” but then, when I try to install 9.2.2, it says it cannot quit the “Background” application (it must be the desktop) even though it’s quit.
Anyway, what should I do. Please help
Configuration: mac 9.2.1

Try starting with your Mac OS CD (you start by pressing the "C" key) and from there run your update file. It might not want to update the hard drive if you boot from it. --

I have the MAC OS CD to upgrade to version 9.2 but on this CD I can only upgrade to version 9.2.1. I downloaded online the software to upgrade to 9.2.2, so your method doesn’t work. And I still don’t know what “this software cannot be installed over this copy of mac OS” means. In short, I’m still waiting for help... thanks!

If your update file is on your hard drive you should be able to launch it even when booting from the CD because you can see your hard drive.
