ICDL is a diploma recognized worldwide.

The PCIE or ECDL or ICDL is exactly the same certificate. The name changes depending on where the certification is obtained: PCIE in France (even though ECDL is increasingly being heard about), ECDL in Europe and ICDL beyond Europe.
It is a professional certification (and not a state diploma) similar to the TOIEC for English, which recognizes the basic skills of a computer user in a professional setting.
It is little recognized in France by the National Education (if at all) even though it is fully integrated into secondary education curricula by the Education in other countries (Italy, Ireland, etc.). In France, the National Education has preferred to create its own validation system, the series of B2i, C2i, Level 1, Level 2, Medical, etc., which is neither recognized abroad nor very well received or appreciated in France (by teachers, students, companies). Some GRETA (continuing education centers of the National Education) have also chosen the PCIE, much more suitable to address the needs of businesses.
Despite the lack of support from the National Education, the PCIE remains the leading certification for office skills in France and worldwide: 9 million candidates in 147 countries, over 120,000 candidates in France and more than 100,000 tests taken each year. The PCIE has seen strong growth in the last 2-3 years only, with a few years of delay compared to our Scandinavian or Anglo-Saxon friends (as usual regarding new technologies), but it is beginning to be widely recognized. It is used in private secondary or higher education (Catholic, secular, business schools, etc.) and in numerous training programs aimed at job seekers or company employees across the country (with regional differences). But whether you are a student, job seeker, or employee, there are solutions to fully or partially fund the PCIE certification: through Regional Councils (in the PRF - Regional Training Plan), through Local Missions, through the DRTEFP (in various forms), through OPCA, through the ESF, etc...
