FTP Failed to retrieve content Solved

Question

Hello,

I've been pulling my hair out for a few days trying to get my FTP server to work.
Let me explain, my friend and I have configured the server and redirected the ports on the Freebox (correctly, I hope).
At first, it wouldn't work from our place except in active mode... (so I read up on active and passive mode (this is complicated)... anyway...
From work, it doesn't work at all even in active mode.... Back home, we reconfigure, and it also works in passive mode, but from work, nothing to do...

I had the same problem in FileZilla, I set the transfer mode to active and the character set to Force UTF-8 phew, it works!

Does this report come from the workplace?  You need to open the router ports from where you work ;) -- Help yourself ^^

Yes indeed... hmmm... the fact that open ports allowing TCP flows necessary for the functioning of the FTP protocol is simply unthinkable!!!

In any case, you need to have your ports open, let me explain:

When sending via the FTP protocol, "blocks" are traveling over the internet ;)
When received by the boxes, if the ports are not open, there is no connection :/

Who manages FTP access at your workplace?

It's him who should handle opening the ports... it's not enough to just open the ports specific to FTP (the command ports).

Authentication and commands do indeed occur on well-known ports, but for file transfers, the destination port and source port are completely random (port number greater than 1024).
So that's where the problem comes from, and consequently, it's up to the administrator to fix the issue!

Same thing: "Failed to retrieve the contents of the folder" in the Records and Games directories. The Video directory is fine, I can modify its contents.

I am convinced that it has to do with the accents in the file names: in the command line with lftp, I see the unlocked files in Records with "ls", showing ? instead of the accents, but a "ls *.ts" doesn’t display them!?

After testing, I confirm: when there are accents, the file is invisible! The problem is that there are systematically accents when saving a string in "low bandwidth"!

Solution (at least in Filezilla): I have forced the character set "latin-9" and I can once again see and manipulate my files via FTP.

In Filezilla, in the Site Manager, character set tab, choose the 3rd option 'Use a custom character set' and type 'latin-9' in the 'Encoding' box.

For other FTP clients than Filezilla, I don't know.

It comes from the firewall if the FTP is a Software, like FileZilla, I had the same problem, you need to check that FTP is installed in PATH C:\, if FileZilla is installed somewhere other than C:\, you will need to temporarily disable the firewall, I have Bitdefender 2010 and even with the rules it doesn't work...

Hello, I've figured out how to do it. You just need to go to the menu via the TV, then FTP and activate everything. After that, you have to enable the hard drive in the hard drive menu, which is also in the TV menu.   There you go! ++

I often had transfer issues and it was due to my firewall ;) disable it temporarily, for about 5 minutes (it will reactivate itself) and depending on the file sizes, you should see :p  or refer to the forum of the firewall in question for more help ;) -- Help yourself, yourself ^^

I had problems with FireFTP from Firefox only on online.net! with 1and1 and OVH, no issues...?! The problem: the connection went well but we got stuck at the / of the root and no files displayed.  My Orange box had the firewall set to High, I switched it to Medium and miracle, I no longer have problems on online.net  I take this opportunity to promote FireFTP, which is really an ideal tool because it is integrated into the explorer, allowing you to remotely modify the files of a site with the appropriate program.

I had the issue, and I've just found a possible lead.
On Windows 7, I was on "public network" and I couldn't access my FTP

by switching to "home network," I was able to connect
