Hello everyone,
Well, I'm desperate about not being able to install maps on my Counter-Strike Source game.
I'll start from the beginning. During a LAN weekend with friends, a friend quickly installed CSS on my PC, and since then I play regularly without any issues. The bots work very well and seem quite real, but after playing alone or with my girlfriend (yes, I have a girlfriend who enjoys PC gaming!), we are tired of always playing on the same maps. Just so you know, I don't play online but on a local network.
After discovering numerous sites that allow downloading maps, I tried to install them, and that's where I got stuck even after following many tips from other forums. So I need your help; let me explain how I’m doing it, and please give me your opinion on why it doesn’t work...
So,
If I understood correctly, I need 3 files each named after the MAP,
I have the following 3 files:
- BSP file
- NAV file
- text document
I then copy these 3 files into the folder "C:\Program Files\sierra\source\cstrike\maps"
Next, I go into the "maplist.txt" and "mapcycle" files and there I add the name of my map that I’m trying to install at the end of the other maps.
When I launch my game and create a match, the game correctly finds my installed map but refuses to start. I get the following message:
Unable to remove c:\program files\sierra\source\cstrike\SAVE!
maxplayers set to 32
CModelLoader::Map_IsValid: Map 'cs_fawlty_towers' bsp version 20, expecting 19
map load failed: cs_fawlty_towers not found or invalid
Thank you for your thoughts! I really want to understand how this works?
I'm also taking this opportunity to ask why when I download CSS maps, most of the time they are missing files, like I only have the BSP file... and can we still make it work...?
Thank you very much for your help,
Best regards, Nicolas.

First, you go to a site to download complete maps.
Indeed, a map is not just a .bsp; you can also have a .nav and additional textures to add.
I'm giving you the address of my site to download maps:
http://www.cssmapsworld.org
Then you unzip my archives into your cstricke folder.
If you're playing on your PC, it's in steamapps; if it's on a server, don't forget to also place it in the fast download folder if you have one.
Then edit your maplist.txt file to set up your map.

I'm not getting it, it doesn't work for me.
I would like to specify that the map I used for the error message is named "cs_fawlty_towers",
Thank you.
Thank you.
Hello. I have a problem... I downloaded a map from the site that Ivanb provided (de_deathcookin), so I saved it in the maps folder and everything was fine up to that point. After that, when I launch CSS, I create a server as usual, then I select the map I downloaded. The loading begins and when it reaches about 70%, it closes CSS and shows me a window saying: unknown navigation file version. Yet I checked, it's the same version and the map is complete. So if anyone has an answer to my problem, I would gladly accept it, thank you in advance.
Just try to delete the .nav file added with the map.
The .nav file only contains information for the movement of bots and hostages on the map.
But the game can generate it automatically (it may be of lower quality than the one created by the map's author, but it's more likely to work!)
(navigation file = .nav file)
Hoping to have helped you.
