How to use the sword in Zelda / Wii

Hello,
At the start of the game, after retrieving the sword from the chest in Link's house, I can't "equip" Link with this sword. Basically, on the quest screen, you have to click A to "equip" the character, but with the sword it doesn't work... I have the impression this is a bug, right?
Configuration: Mac OS X Safari 525.26.12

    Hi, to use the sword I think you have to be outside.

    Once you’re there, you swing with the Wiimote (right hand). The sword equips by default.
