Hello,
I am not very good with the internet
I already have a website
This site was created by a webmaster who no longer provides me with acceptable service (hosting and management)
He does not want to give me the CD with its content and the keys so that I can manage it myself while being hosted elsewhere.
How can I recover the content and the keys for management?
Thank you in advance for your help
Sincerely,
Richard

Hello,
Unfortunately, without access codes to the server, it's impossible to regain access to your web pages without cracking.
If the domain name belongs to you, you will likely need to threaten it with a registered letter and get a lawyer to recover the content of your site.
Now, if it's a static site (composed only of pages in .htm or .html, for example, but not .php and/or .asp .aspx), then you can simply copy/paste the source code of your pages by displaying them one by one with a browser.
Good luck

here is the address of my website in question
www.centrart.qc.ca/richardfulham
CENTRART is both the webmaster and the host
Is there a possible recovery of the data or do I need to create a new one from scratch?
I am an artist and I need to manage my site more regularly and even improve it....but currently it's a lost cause because my webmaster only responds to my emails when it suits him and makes a lot of mistakes while charging the maximum.
Thank you for your advice

So after checking, it seems that your site does not use dynamic language, so we can retrieve all the content just with a web browser; you just need to go through each page of your site and display the source code, then copy the result into a new file that you save on your computer. Otherwise, there are 'crawler' software that, once given the site address, retrieves all the content.
Afterwards, I recommend finding a serious and especially responsive host for your requests.
There’s no need to change sites; you can already buy a domain name (about €10/year) to have a 'real' internet address like: www.mysite.com
Don't hesitate

As I am not an internet whiz....that's why I had my site created by a webmaster....I would need a bit more advice from you if you don't mind
# 1 You said.......we can recover all the content just with a web browser, you just need to go through each page of your site and display the source code, then copy the result into a new file that you save on your computer......
QUESTION: how can I perform this operation and do I need to copy each page into a different file?
# 2 You said......otherwise there are 'spider' software programs that, once given the website address, retrieve all the content.
QUESTION: do you have an address of this type of site....is it free?......is it safe
# 3 Once this data is retrieved one way or another....how can I manage my site...remove tables to replace them with new ones...add a few additional pages in the same style as my current site, e.g.: page for my workshops...page for liquidating certain tables, etc.
As for my new server, I will use the same one as for my internet...it will be simpler
Best regards
Richard

- You need to go to your site with your browser
- Display the source code, select it then copy it
- Open your notepad and paste the retrieved source code
- Save this new file on your computer in a folder, for example 'Site', and name the first page index.htm
- Go back to your site and click on the first link and repeat the same operation but instead of naming the file index.html, name it with a coherent name (for example contact.html if it’s your contact page)
- Repeat this operation for each link on your site
- Once all the pages are retrieved, you should also remember to take the images (click on save as and save the image in the same 'Site' folder)
After all that, you will have your site in hand so you can give it to a webmaster for modification or try directly on your side.

3/ The best option if you don't know HTML code is to use software like FrontPage or Dreamweaver.
But these solutions are not so evident if you don't know, so I don't want to waste your time, it might be preferable to go through a more skilled webmaster.
It is still highly recommended to entrust your hosting to a professional as your local server is not necessarily designed to run 24/7, as well as for managing the web and mail server and securing your data.

Thank you to BG62 and especially to aujusteprix for your messages
Aujusteprix, I will digest your latest information that I consider relevant... I will make an attempt by myself and if I fail, I will come back to the blog for additional questions.
By the way, my host is a professional company (cable and internet for years), and if I didn’t use it from the start, it’s for two reasons:
A: no need for a domain name as my webmaster is hosting me (for now)
B: hosting at a competitive price
But all good things must come to an end, and my webmaster's time has come...... so I am trying to recover my site data + domain name + new hosting
Thank you for your valuable collaboration
Have a good day (afternoon for me in Quebec)
Best regards
Richard

Hello
Given the problems and the design of the site: start everything over on personal hosting with a domain name that belongs to you
it will be 100 times more effective in the medium term... and much simpler and faster!

The 'www' is also made for communicating, sharing, and exchanging, isn't it?

Hi,
Well, there's a lot of laughter in the story because:
http://www.centrart.qc.ca/droit.html
It's quite something, considering that I assume those are your own photos, and given what you say, he would be using your photos without your explicit permission (well, you're withdrawing the rights from him).
Moreover, he is not French as a host, so it's uncertain whether he has the right to hold the site hostage.
You should also check if you paid him for the site; in that case, you should have a contract, and it’s possible that he remains the owner of the site.
Finally, the site is using frames (which is awful) but also uses CGI.
Otherwise, like bg62, you could redo a nice clean site, and considering what the site is, I know quite a few people who would redo the site (without frames) for around fifty euros!

Hello Ghost
Thank you for your response
Some clarifications
# 1 my site is an artist site with my images of paintings
# 2 yes the site has been paid (in paintings at his request during the creation) but paid all the same at its full value
# 3 I'm not saying he's holding my site hostage but it's difficult for me to regain control and the keys for health reasons (my server) memory loss, prolonged absence, etc....this person is honest but it's difficult for me to contact them for the reasons mentioned above and also when I ask for a modification, however slight...for example: changing a sold painting for a recent one....it can take weeks if not months and making lots of mistakes during the modifications....it's not entirely the fault of the server...it's a very ill person with many concentration issues.......hence obviously my need to regain control in another way and of course new hosting and my own domain name
# 4 you say the site is in frame.......I'm sorry but that escapes me!...CGI....that escapes me!
# 5 you say you know people who could rebuild the site for cheap....so that works for me...in paintings ideally without issue......but with receipt of all the material + information on how to manage afterwards + procedure for adding a few additional pages
If you know someone that would be nice to give me contacts
Thank you for your collaboration
Best regards

Hi,
I'm forwarding the URL of your site as well as the email you have with cgocable.ca
As for the tables... I'm sorry, there might be someone interested in my circle, but she won't be able to help you at all.
No, I'm going to ask a trustworthy person, available 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, who usually asks for a "compensation" that often represents 10% of what others charge.
