Kilo mega giga = base 10 meaning
1KB = 1000 bytes
1MB = 1000 KB
1GB = 1000 MB, etc...
Before 1998, 1KB was defined as 2^10, or 1024. It wasn't until 1998 that we had the specification kibibyte, etc...
There is a very interesting wiki, despite my years in computing I didn't know much (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octet)
