How to know my CPU cooler?

I am getting ready to build my own multimedia PC running Linux. I don't have everything yet, but I've chosen an AMD+ compatible motherboard.
I also found a circular CPU cooler: How can I find out which processor it might be suitable for?

Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 3.6.13

    Do you mean AM2+?
    I also got a circular-shaped heatsink
    That's way too vague for us to respond, you should provide at least the brand and model of the heatsink, or at a minimum a picture of the beast
    What processor did you get it from?
