it has just locked up without any manipulation or impact
I lost the manual and I can't remember how automatic search works

Car search:
turn on the TV, press the TV selection button on the remote, then release it.
press the code button while pointing at the TV, then, within the next 8 seconds, press and hold the power button (pink) on the controller. when the screen goes off: that should be all good.
