    Note that the cable between the PC and the scanner must be unplugged during the installation of the drivers...
    The procedure usually requires reconnecting it..

    Currently, I have the same installation problem with the HP ScanJet 4400c on Windows 7, but while waiting to find a driver, I partitioned my hard drive with 7 and XP. Now at least I can use the scanner on XP.
