Hi Dami,
It's been 2 full days that I've been searching like crazy for the same thing as you: I reformatted my PDA for Windows Mobile 6 and a menc extension has stuck to my jpg photos; it turns out that the menc extension should be called crap because I've been to many sites... and I'm really frustrated! This extension is sometimes unknown to specialized file conversion sites; if you want, we can look for it together, leave your email in my inbox and I promise that if I find it, I'll let you know; know that I've been to PC astuces, how to fix computers, the HTC site, Microsoft, and others: nothing!! It sucks for the photos, but I've also worked on text that's now unreadable... see you soon!

The .menc extension is used by your phone for security measures (so that no one else can read your data if you do not disable this option on your phone); to remove the .menc extension from your files, you need to go to: Settings -> System -> Encryption: uncheck the encryption box!!!!
Hello,
I also had this blockage
I have a Windows Phone
so go to START at the top
then SETTINGS
tab at the bottom SYSTEM
then ENCRYPTION
and finally uncheck the box

Hello!!
You need to configure the phone to sync with ActiveSync, then in Windows Mobile Device Center, select to explore the device's content. There you will see the files in their true format, without the .menc extension that had me spinning for two days.
Good luck

What is the difference between jumping off a building with both feet together and jumping off a tree headfirst?

I FOUND A SOLUTION to recover your file
1- connect your mobile to the computer http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/SW/200904/20090420163142703/Microsoft_ActiveSync_4.5.msi
2- install acti sync
3- connect your phone
4- go to the workstation (econ mobile device)
5- copy the image files it works well, but for video you need to convert (I tried FREE FLV CONVERTER, IT WORKS WELL)
