How many bytes are in 1MB?

Just a little detail:

In computing, there are two systems for counting: either on 1000, where the prefixes are Ko, Mo, Go, To, Po, ...
But there is also the practice of counting on 1024: the prefixes then become Kio, Mio, Gio, ... (the "i" is there to indicate "Informatics").

By misuse of language, people use one instead of the other.

1 Byte = 1 octet = 8 Bits

1 k octet = 1024 octets

1 Meg = 1024 K

1 giga = 1024 M

These are the units taken into account by computing, BUT distribution has not entirely adhered to these rules and has replaced the factor 1024 with 1000, except for RAM memory.

For example, when you are provided with a 20 Meg disk

it makes 20 * 1000 * 1000 bytes and not 20 * 1024 * 1024 bytes
