"Out of range" error when connecting a display to my Mac

Hello, I am experiencing a problem when I connect an MSI 144hz monitor to my MacBook Pro 2020 via an HDMI adapter + HDMI cable. The screen remains black and a "out of range" message appears. Do you have any idea what could be causing this issue? Thank you in advance.

I haven't heard of this kind of error message before,
but one suggestion would be to try different resolutions in System Preferences / Display... test several resolutions in "Scaled," and while holding down the option key, click on "Detect Displays"...
