External hard drive creation date

Question

Hello,

I just bought a 2TB WD external hard drive for my Mac and I formatted it to exFAT so I could use it on a PC as well.
When I check the information, it shows: created on January 1, 1970, modified on January 1, 1980. If someone could shed some light on this information? It's not a refurbished drive, I bought it from Boulanger (quite expensive) just now (2020) and it's new.

It would be good to specify the exact model of your Mac, laptop or desktop? And under which OS it is running?

Hello,

The manufacturing date of the disk is written on the disk case. You need to open the enclosure to be able to read this information on the disk itself...

There are also software tools that can read the disk's firmware... But on Mac, I don't know.

I assume the date you're talking about is a file date or the date of formatting... It's more likely the date recorded in the formatting software and not the birth date of the disk...

I also think that with the serial number, on the WD site, you can find out its age...
Here is a command in Windows that provides the serial number

wmic diskdrive get serialnumber

My Mac is a 2020 MacBook Air but I don't see the connection? I'm talking about the external hard drive.

I'm asking this out of curiosity because after all, if the hard drive works, I'm fine with that, but I found it strange to see such an old date on a 2020 hard drive...
