Hello,  I’m looking to buy a state-of-the-art i7 laptop with dedicated GPU memory. I would like some advice regarding this purchase. I saw a Dell 5470 from the E series that can support up to 16 GB of RAM. I would like to know if the NVIDIA graphics card is dedicated on this type of laptop and if it's a good machine overall?  Aside from the screen being only 14 inches, is the machine itself good? Or should I prioritize a larger screen, like 4 by 3, 16:9, or 17 inches? Good evening,  Dedicated memory is RAM set aside specifically for the graphics card!  If you choose a PC with 8 gigs of RAM and:  If it says "Intel 630" graphics card, the memory used will be the main RAM with a portion allocated for display and video processing (8 gigs in total, with 7 for the PC and 1 for graphics display).  If it says Nvidia graphics card, it will be a separate card and there, normally, you should have information regarding the RAM it will be equipped with, usually 2 gigs (The 8 gigs will remain entirely dedicated to the machine).  8GB of RAM is sufficient for Windows 10, but it then depends on the software you wish to use. Given the current price of RAM, having 12 or 16 gigs isn't a bad idea.

Hello,   Thank you for your response, I take note   of this information, I will choose a laptop.   Which one would you recommend, a   Dell or rather an HP? With HP, we have a screen that   can go up to 17 inches and more, as well   as the dedicated RAM of the graphics card   which is quite interesting for HP unless   I'm mistaken, Dell also has a dedicated   graphics card? Hello,  They all do pretty much the same thing; they have motherboards made and choose the components they want to use.  So what's important is to keep up to date with new technologies, where we stand with current products, etc...  - M2 NVMe is the fastest storage medium on the market - We are at version 10 of the i3/i5/i7/i9 processors - The socket for the version 10 processors is brand new  What is likely to happen is that configurations based on version 8-9 processors will drop significantly  A really well-equipped laptop will have 1 M2 NVMe slot and 2 SATA 2.5 slots.  So getting a 17-inch with an i5 or i7 base, having M2 NVMe, around 250-500GB with 1 or 2 2.5-inch slots, whether they are provided or not, is not important; the idea would be to have a 1 or 2TB SSD first and the same capacity in HDD for backups, for example.  Generation 8 or 9 doesn't change much, and I honestly don't know what extra benefits generation 10 brings.  If you want to display 3D modeled items, a dedicated graphics card is useful; otherwise, it's not necessary, especially since it consumes a lot and generates heat!  So if it's for gaming = Yes, and it would even be mandatory If it's for watching movies, editing photos, browsing the internet = Not necessary, the "Intel UHD 630" card will work just fine as it derives its operation from the processor itself.  For the screen, make sure it's labeled "IPS" with a matte surface.  If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!  ;o)

Hello, thanks for your feedback. There’s nothing to complain about the price; it’s reasonable and within an affordable budget for me.  When choosing between an HP and a Dell with the same configuration: 17-inch screen, Intel Core i7 2720QM, 8 GB of RAM, 750 GB hard drive, 128 GB SSD, reinstalled with Windows 10, and a new battery and charger. Hello   The SSD hard drive is 750 GB, but only 700 GB is usable because the rest is taken up by the operating system. What bothers me about this PC is the graphics card with a resolution not reaching 1920 x 1080 for watching movies in HD. It's only good for browsing and office work, but not for video or movies which is not good. I might be disappointed. What do you think, true or false...?   coolbat

It's the PC screen that is limited in its resolution!  HP and DELL, like other brands, offer product ranges from entry-level to professional products.  Here we have something that was very good at the time and quite expensive, but that will get the job done.  We mustn't forget that there is wear on certain parts like the fans.  Have you looked at other offers around €600?

You need to contact the seller and ask if you have a second 2.5-inch compartment?  8GB is definitely enough.  The hard drive is clearly the weak point.  Do you have the link to the offer?

In 17-inch laptops, there are often 2 slots for 2.5-inch storage drives  Usually, you have 1 SSD in the first slot and an HDD in the second  Back then, SSDs were very expensive! Now you can easily put in 2 SSDs and especially replace the first one with a larger one (usually it was 128GB).  So ask the seller if there are 2 slots for 2.5 inches.

Re JeuneL  I received the HP Envy laptop, the internal drive is a 1TB mechanical HDD at 5400 RPM but it’s not fast enough so I am going to replace it with a 2.5' SATA3 SSD.  What do you recommend for the SSD?  As for the graphics card, the resolution is indeed 1600x1900, it's only HD, but it's already pretty good considering the condition in which I bought it.  The RAM is also only 6GB maximum, it’s sufficient, but I would have liked it to be up to 8GB.  Thank you.  coolbat

You can take a red WD for NAS that is designed for a lot of writing, a blue WD is also very good but will have less writing.  1600x900 and not 1900! It's a true 16/9 actually! ;o)  For the SSD, you're totally right. These 5400 RPM mechanical hard drives are only good for storage, not at all for the system anymore.  ;o)

I couldn't tell you, there are already plenty of well-known brands so there's no need to look for unknown ones.

It's easy to have equipment made and slap your brand on it, and when there are too many issues, the brand disappears leaving customers in the lurch.

Whereas brands like WD or Samsung won't disappear and will be forced to take responsibility in case of problems.
