[Grouped topic] YouTube subtitles issue

Question

Hello,

Following the end of Windows 7, I purchased a new laptop (MSI GF75 Thin 95C) running Windows 10.

However, I am encountering a problem with YouTube subtitles, and this started from the very first use of the new PC.

My YouTube subtitles work perfectly fine when leaving the original language of the video, but the problem arises as soon as I want to translate the subtitles into French (via the automatic translation option => language choice). As soon as I request a translation, the two lines of subtitles overlap, making them unreadable.

My PC is up to date, and I've tried different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Edge) with the same result!
This issue is really bothering me as my English is approximate and I watch a lot of English videos.

Would a kind soul have any suggestions, please?

It seems that the latest Windows update has solved the problem... Before that, I tried everything, but nothing worked!

But everything is great now... the first night of lockdown, which is quite convenient :)

Hello,

Yes, I did try resetting the settings => without success

But the fact that I'm not the only one in this situation, like Lucky for example, confirms that the problem indeed comes from YouTube and not from my setup.. So I will wait a few days to see if they fix the issue

One thing that I haven't checked yet, but I will do tonight, is to turn on my old PC running Windows 7 and see if the same problem is also present or not (everything was working very well on it before I changed PCs)

Hello,

I don't really see any problems with the subtitles in French.
- No overlapping
- Subtitles at the bottom of the video.
Example in the image:

1- Clear the cache of Firefox (cookies, history...)
After opening Firefox, click on the three horizontal lines icon in the upper right corner.
In the dropdown menu, select Options.
Select the ''Privacy and Security'' tab.
Scroll down the page and under the History section, click on the ''Retention Rules'' dropdown menu.
Select " Use custom settings for history ".
Check the option " Clear history when Firefox closes ".
Then click on the Settings box.
Choose what you want Firefox to automatically clear upon closing, then click OK.
- Browsing history and downloads.
- Active logins.
- Cookies.
- Cache.
When you exit Firefox, your cookies and browsing history will be automatically deleted.

2- Logout of your Google account if you are logged in.

3- Try on Youtube polymer

4- Update to the latest version of Adobe Flash Player

5- New PC antivirus conflict if there are 2
Windows Defender already installed is sufficient.
Is Windows Update up to date?
Settings → Updates and security
To find out what your version is, press the Windows + R keys
Type → winver
note your version.

6- Test in private browsing to clear any doubts.
Click on the three horizontal lines menu button in the upper right corner.
Select → New private browsing window.

7- Check if the drivers are up to date.
Especially the graphics card driver.
You can check it on My Drivers

Same problem as you when I request the translation in French of the subtitles on YT.

So I have some news:

You need to fullscreen the video before activating the subtitles function, then select French subtitles; in that case, there won't be any overlapping.
You can even go back to the normal player afterward, the subtitles will still be there.

There you go, it's a bit of a workaround, but that’s how it works for me. I hope it will work for everyone else who has this issue too.
