Hello,
Since I switched to this free version of Malwarebytes, I have "Malwarebytes Tray Application" running all the time. Is that normal, does it not harm the performance of the PC?
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
Just to be sure, did you originally want to use only the free version (so without real-time protection) or not?
If yes, you need to uncheck a box during the installation to avoid ending up with the trial version of Malwarebytes Professional.
Thank you for your response...

You're taking the words out of my mouth.
Hello,
Yes, it's normal, Malwarebytes runs many security devices in the background, including the Malwarebytes Tray Application. However, Malwarebytes does indeed slow down PC performance, but it does not make it unusable either. The background tools of Malwarebytes shouldn't cause any issues.
Hope this helps,
-Kragenskul

Hello,
Is it the free trial of the Premium version of Malwarebytes or the free version of Malwarebytes?
Best regards

Hello,
I don't think it's Malwarebytes that's causing it... The free trial version can, however, generate false positives. I've never heard of such interruptions with the free version... Maybe Malwarebytes is just slowing it down? If the problem persists, unfortunately, I don't think I'll be able to help...

Hello
By the way...
It is possible to revert (during the trial) to the basic version by disabling the premium offer
"Note: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is completely free, but the Premium version (not essential for the software's effectiveness) is automatically activated and available for 14 days. To return to the free version, go to "Settings" > "My Account" tab and click at the bottom on "Deactivate Premium trial"."

This is indeed the free version; I was careful during the installation. I have Windows 7, free Avast, and Windows Defender disabled.
It's not so much the slight slowdown of the PC that's the problem, but the fact that two cumulative monthly quality updates refuse to install.

Oh no, I've been looking for an explanation/solution for a while now.
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- sfc repair: no integrity violations
- downloading the 2 updates from www.catalog.update.microsoft: installation failed
- Windows Update Troubleshooter: 2 errors found "the service registry is missing or damaged" and "Windows Update error 0x8024402C(2017-10-21-T-07_34_07)". Fixed according to the report.
That said, my PC is still running, there are no apparent problems, but I like to understand when things go wrong, and in computing that’s not easy...

Good evening MPMP10, just to let you know, I just reinstalled Malwarebytes to check on the protection.
And it blocks access to the webpage at your link, so if Penndu doesn't change the exceptions, they won't have access.
Maybe uninstall Malwarebytes, just to avoid any hassle during your operations.
No problem with your link, once Malwarebytes is uninstalled (with Revo Uninstaller).
Good luck.

Hello everyone!
Just for the history of Malwarebytes Free.
Real-time protections are available for 14 days and can all be disabled from the settings, protection tab (if I remember correctly).

It seems to me that he spoke about "Deactivate the Premium trial"
"To return to the free version, go to 'Settings' > 'My Account' tab and click at the bottom on 'Deactivate the Premium trial.'"
But this is in case he started a trial version.
---------------
My comments are for the free version, and this is to manage the real-time protection that is also offered for 14 days.
In the protection tab.
;-)

Yes, it's an old version (as explained above) version 1.75.0.1300.
For your information, I currently have it on my PC and the updates are working...
As for protection, I am on the free version without real-time protection, I only use the scanning part to search for any infections present on the PC...

Penndu, have you tried the solution given by MPMP10?
Here: https://forums.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich-34962911-malwarebytes-version-3-2-2-2029#35
(I took the liberty of bringing it back from the comments in case you hadn't seen it)
And if that doesn't work, and you think your updates haven't been happening since you got Malwarebytes,
I advise you to uninstall it using this software
(you can always reinstall it later if you wish)
https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/19405-revo-uninstaller/
And try the updates again.

And personally, I prefer AdwCleaner
https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/securite/2759-adwcleaner/
Quicker and simpler, and the same company now.
Malwarebytes has never found anything more than AdwCleaner for me.
And no issues with AdwCleaner.
It doesn't have real-time protection, I scan from time to time.
(which is the same after 14 days for Malwarebytes.)
And no pop-ups to upgrade to a paid version and other messages of that kind.

Originally, they have two different uses, but let's say that since Malwarebytes acquired the French Adwcleaner, I have the impression that their virus database might be common.
Why I suspect this:
After each scan done with one and then the other (scan just after with the second), neither of them found more than the other.
(Well... my PC is pretty clean; we'll see by comparing the scan result on a heavily infected PC)
This raises a question...
Because one claims to deal with malware and the other with adware, but both also say they perform a “cleanup of potentially unwanted software.”
Who knows what they mean by that term.
This is just a theory... Alternatives, I don’t know, just doubts based on what I could infer.

In any case, these types of software should be used during infections to simply identify them.
Removal should only be done if you know what you're doing.
It's better to seek advice before removal.
Sometimes it removes the visible part of the iceberg but not the submerged part, which can complicate disinfection.
Or you may never realize that the infection is still present.

In order to convince some friends, I had already conducted tests on MBAM and Adwcleaner... Adwcleaner did NOT detect the majority of the malware, while MBAM detected everything.... Adwcleaner is therefore not designed to ensure detection and removal of malware, I am convinced of that (You can test it yourself if you want to verify this). In short, for me, Adwcleaner = Detection of adware, detection of A PART of potentially unwanted programs (and remnants of potentially unwanted programs), and possibly bad extensions. MBAM = Detection of malware, a tiny part of viruses, and a large part of detection of potentially unwanted programs, as well as their remnants.
Sincerely,
-Kragenskul

Hello everyone,
First of all, thank you for your help.
- I uninstalled Malwarebytes Free: update installation failed. So it's not him who is blocking.
- As for the manual reset, I will first back up my personal data and get "coached" by someone more expert than me.
- I couldn't download the 1.fichier.com link provided by MPMP10 on 10/29. I have the homepage but no download. Is it really "access the download" that I need to click? Should the 2 boxes above be checked? And what exactly is this file? Free?
I will keep you updated as soon as possible.
Best regards.
