Unsupported video codec

Hello, I'm presenting my problem,
I downloaded a movie that I put on my USB drive, unfortunately, when I plug my drive into the TV, when I try to play the movie my TV shows "video codec not supported."
I was advised to rename my file to .avi but that didn’t change anything.
I was told to re-encode my file; however, I don’t know how to do that!

Could someone please help me? :)
Best regards.

    Hello,

Could you please specify the file extension (AVI, MP4, WMV, or others)?
Also, indicate the model and brand of your television?

Re-encoding means converting the video file again to make it compatible with what your television can recognize.
Generally speaking, MP4 files (with AVC/H264 video codec and AAC audio codec) are often well-tolerated, but other types may also be accepted.

    Best regards

On my side, I've re-encoded my .avi files to mp4, and since then I can play everything on my Samsung TV.
