Hello,
I received a request for an explanation regarding the non-compliance with my company's procedures.
How should I respond?

hello
it all depends on the company and the procedures in place
imagine airbus or boeing, it doesn't matter
not adhering to the procedures for changing a part is very serious because it can lead to a crash
now placing a sheet on page 3 of a catalog instead of page 2 is not the same thing.. in any case, you are asked to explain how you perform the task you were asked to do
and to explain why you are doing it differently than what you were initially told to do
most of the time you are summoned to give your explanations, it’s rare that a written account is enough.

it can be a good thing if your idea saves time, (therefore money) or requires less effort or handling..
in which case, they ask you that to test on a larger scale, and ultimately, to benefit everyone.

but most often, let's face it: it is the first step towards a sanction, even dismissal for misconduct, again depending on the nature of the process and the final result required or the actual consequences of the difference between the two..
