PIMF Cable

Hello everyone,

On cable shields, the mention PIMF (Pair In Metal Foil) frequently appears, which would literally mean FTP in my opinion.
However, I was convinced that the foil was made of aluminum.

What should I understand by the "Metal" in PIMF? Is it generic or are there several materials for the foil?

Thank you in advance,

Hello,
In my opinion, the PIMF is S/FTP, not FTP. In fact, S/FTP would be the old name but is still very commonly used.
So you have shielded cabling per pair and overall shielding. The shielding consists of a copper foil and a braid for the overall, and an aluminum foil and a braid per pair. The metal is therefore different for the overall and for the pairs. In F/FTP, I believe it's aluminum everywhere.
