Hello,

When I click on the Apple, then on About This Mac, nothing opens...

I should specify that if I click on Apple and then System Preferences for example, I have no problem, the window opens.

So I can't get any information about my Mac (MacBook Air).

If someone can help me? A big THANK YOU in advance.

Mireille

Configuration: Mac OS X (10.10) / Firefox 39.0

Hello,

Try to start from the recovery partition (Recovery HD) by restarting the Mac while holding down the cmd and R keys. Once you arrive at the utilities window, launch Disk Utility, select your HD, and run a disk repair, followed by a permissions repair.
When it's done, restart normally, what’s the result?
Best regards

Thank you very much for your reply, I will do what you suggest but will I lose what is on my computer by doing this? (sorry if my question is silly but I'm not a pro).
Have a good evening :)

Good evening,

No, there is no reason to lose your data by doing that.

You can also try starting the Mac in safe mode for the first boot (see HERE) and then do a normal start to check if that stubborn menu has returned to normal.
If not, then follow the recommendations of dede74000.

Good evening,

So the result... is negative. I first did what Ritchi instructed me to do, then I followed your procedure to the letter, repairing the disk, the permissions, but without success. The window still doesn't open! Yet everything else seems to be working fine.

Thank you very much, and I'm not sure if I can try something else?

Have a good evening.

Hello,

Now that you've done all that, turn it off and restart it. Does it work now?

If it still doesn't work, then open the folder "Applications -> Utilities" and look for the utility named "System Information": is it there?
If not, then you'll need to reinstall it, and the easiest way is to reinstall the system by booting from the recovery partition (Cmd and R) and choosing "Reinstall macOS" from the menu provided.

If "System Information" is indeed present, launch it: does it work?

Hello,

I had already turned it off and restarted it.

Now I followed your path, I found "system information". I launched it but without success, a window opens and says: unable to open the "system information" window.

Should I then reinstall it?

Thank you :)
