à noter aussi que sur un vieux PC, (un cyrix PR166+) il me fût impossible d'installer WIN98 directement à partir du cd !
Malgrés la modif du sequence boot dans le Bios ciblé sur le cdrom !!!
J'au dû booter sur une disquette (remodifier le sequence boot)

Soit le lecteur est naze, soit on a booté sur une disquette, mais si tu me dis qu'il n'y a pas de lecteur de disquette...euh ! là je m'intérroge ???
j'ai fait des recherches, tu dois avoir un lecteur de disquette dans cette machine (ou alors on l'a viré! au quel cas....no solution !)

At the DOS prompt, type cd DOS and press Enter. Then, type TSETUP.
Both methods will take you to the first of two screens, each of which is a table showing default settings. To change (or view) the options available at any particular setting, use the arrow keys to move to the setting and press the space bar to scroll through the options. Once you've left DOS, any changes you've made to TSETUP become default settings when you reboot your system.

pour les portables/ou PC de marque type tour, la version de l'OS installée est OEM.
En gros,l'OS est indissociable de ton PC
Pas de cd d'install de l'OS ! (xp ou Vista)
Le PC fait un tout...seul existe la possibilité de restaurer la machine dans l'état d'origine...et encore, quand ça marche !
A condition, d'avoir fait les cd de restauration....
pour les portables/ou PC de marque type tour, la version de l'OS installée est OEM.
En gros,l'OS est indissociable de ton PC

ben à vrais dire je sais pas vraiment...
Ma fille à un portable Toshiba avec cd de restauration plus possibilité dans le bios de vérouiller le disque dur par un mot passe.
Pour le tatooage du bios là je sais pas, mais c'est pas un problème si le bios est tatooé il suffit de le flasher.

Je t'entends...mais le risque est quand-même de rendre sa machine inutilisable en cas de plantage de la manoeuvre ! (flashage BIOS)

il n' y a pas de partition cachée sur le portable de ma fille, juste le contenu du cd dans un dossier dans l'explorateur.
Je précise que c'est un portable neuf jamais bidouillé.

Y à pas un sticker avec un numéro de licence collé au dos de la machine? Si oui, sur ce sticker, il doit y avoir apposé la version de l'OS auquel il correspond.?!
Dès lors, il ne reste plus qu'a se procurer une copie du cd d'install de la dite version.

Soit un cd Linux ' Ubuntu ou autres distributions'.
Ou sur mon site tu récupère l'image iso Win98Tools. Graver ce fichier comme une image disque et non données avec Nero, ou si pas Nero récupère un logiciel gratuit capable de graver les fichiers ISO.
Sur mon site tu as aussi Savepart qui est sur cd bootable en plus Savepart est gratuit. Il permet de faire une image de partition.

et comme toi, c'est marqué qu'il y a un lecteur disquette intégré.
Mais sur un modèle de cet génération, je pense que le boot usb c'est pas la peine d'y penser, donc connecter un lecteur externe cela ne doit servir à rien.
