Mailing date written in full

Under Excel,
I write in the cell 22/07/2013
The cell format is Category: Date and Type: March 14, 2001
The cell displays July 22, 2013
The formula bar above the spreadsheet displays 22/07/2013

Under Word,
In Barbizon, the "date"

When I right-click toggle field codes
In Paris, the { MERGEFIELD date \@ "dd MMMM yyyy" }
Right-click again update fields
In Paris, the 41477

I tried both quotation mark formats "date" and «date»
It doesn't work any better

it works!
Why?
How do I put an apostrophe before each date in my 1700 dates?
