Decoder installation without knowing the satellite name

Hello,

I’m Belgian and just arrived in France. I’m not quite familiar with the French installations yet.
Anyway.
I have a TV and in the house I’m renting, there’s a satellite dish on the roof. The cable goes inside. So I bought a satellite decoder to connect the cable inside to my television.
The problem is that I don’t know the model of my satellite at all, and apparently it’s crucial to know it to set up the receiver...
Can someone help me set it up even if I don’t know exactly what the satellite is?

Thank you!!

Hello,

What decoder did you buy? A generic one (which encryption does it support?)? A canalsat ready? TNT by satellite? Etc.

Best regards

PLEASE DESCRIBE your problem in DETAIL, thank you! @Save the Earth! It's the only planet where we can find chocolate!

Sorry, but I think it's a bad choice because, in addition to having pretty much 0 information on this terminal, it seems incompatible with everything that exists in France, TNT by satellite, CanalReady, etc.
Moreover, it clearly states "Parental control, only receives foreign channels."
Therefore, there are no French channels, no Belgian channels (there's nothing Belgian on free-to-air satellite anymore), but you will have Italian, German, Arabic channels, etc.

Always gather information beforehand, especially since this forum offers guidance on choosing the right satellite terminal. To summarize, this HD Mpeg 4 (thus backward compatible to 2) decoder only allows viewing or recording of French HD-SD clear channels (Eutelsat 5, Astra 1, or Hot-Bird) and international channels, German (Astra1), English (Astra 2), Italian, and Arabic (Hot-Bird). It would be suitable as a complement if you already receive the 25 free national French channels from TNT via a rooftop antenna.

If you do not receive the French terrestrial offer or do so poorly or partially, there’s only one solution: the terminal for TNS, FRANSAT HD Mpeg 4-2 (or possibly Orange TV) on the Eutelsat 5WA 5°W satellite, which provides all 25 of our French channels (+ 24 France 3 Regions) without a subscription, including 10 national channels in HD and 15 other national channels in SD.

Beware of poor advice given in stores or even on forums, as CANAL READY terminals cannot access the entire free national offering through the TNTSAT bouquet. However, they are designed for paid bouquets, Canalsat or Canal+ on Astra 1. Moreover, the French national audiovisual regulatory authority, the “CSA”, has banned Tntsat for its non-compliance.

You still have the option of a television with an integrated satellite tuner, like Samsung or Panasonic TVs, etc., thus without an external decoder.

Thank you for your advice. Let's say I went there, I asked the salesperson for advice, and he told me it would be fine (great salesperson, thanks...), I didn't imagine it would be so complicated... So I'm going to take it back...
