I did it, I solved the problem!!!!
Actually, on my sheet, I went to uncheck in:
    Edit - Modify - Save
which caused all the modifications I was making to disappear and restored access to the "Sort" function
for your information, if a novice like me asks you the same question!!! but I think that's rare
    thank you again

Jocelyne, you didn't have this solution offered to you because it is a specific manipulation for OpenOffice, which we don't have in Excel.
This explains why none of us thought of it...
The important thing is that you figured it out on your own, like a big girl!

      Best regards.

    Hello,
What version do you have? Maybe you need to update...^-^

Hello and thank you for your prompt response.
      I have version 3.4.1
      I just purchased it
I must have unchecked something somewhere because this function was still operational yesterday.

      You bought it!!! Where...

More precisely, I changed my computer (purchase) supplied with OPEN while I was used to WINDOWS, hence my incompetence!!!

OPEN is a suite of office software (word processing, spreadsheet, etc.).
WINDOWS is the operating system that runs the computer.
It's like comparing a waltz and a dance floor!

That said, the "Sort" function is not available if your cursor is in an empty cell, or in a cell that has no other filled cells above or below...

you can see that I'm useless!!!
I had no issues manipulating EXCEL so I know how to position the cursor to sort
but I can't click on the "sort" function which remains "light gray" if you know what I mean: I don't know the computer terms you might use; it's too much for me
however, my question is probably at a kindergarten level for you but I'm stuck.......
as I said, I must have checked or unchecked something somewhere????

    Thank you all,
I solved my problem by "fiddling" around
actually, the "sort" function doesn't work for the folder I am currently working on
if I open other folders it works, so I copied and pasted my table into another folder, performed the sort I wanted, and transferred it back to my original folder !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
okay, I won't bore you with this detail anymore and I thank you very much for your patience
    have a great weekend

      Hello Joce,
      You're welcome, ;-)
Your file was read-only...? In order for it to work, it needs to be saved first.
Have a great weekend as well.

I can't mark it as resolved
according to the explanation, I need to click "resolved" but I don't have this option next to "follow".
