Hello,
I want to replace the internal hard drive of my Sony Vaio VGN-CR11Z/R because it indicates that a "hard drive failure is imminent."
First, is it possible for me to change it myself? If so, what should I choose?
All I can provide as information for now is that it is a 160GB ATA hitachi HTS541616J9SA00 hard drive.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
And thank you in advance for all the information you can provide!
Configuration: Linux / Firefox 3.5.3

Good evening,
Here is a rather interesting little tutorial on how to change the hard drive of a Vaio
http://www.yann.com/fr/comment-demonter-un-sony-vaio-pour-remplacer-le-disque-dur-01/10/2010.html
Then, what I could advise you to know what to get is to try to see the brand and reference to find the same one online. -
Well, this tutorial is great!
So the best thing if I understand correctly is to first take everything apart to see which disk is in place?
I can't retrieve this info from the computer? (Right now I have Linux installed, it's the only way I found to be able to use the computer anyway...)
edit: because with Linux, I can access the hard drive's serial number as well as the firmware version, is that enough? -

Oh of course you can get the info directly from the computer, I'm trying to reply to you tomorrow because it's getting late and I need to sleep a minimum.
