My computer displays an alert code 601.

Question

Hello, I have a startup problem with my Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop. It displays the following message at startup: HP battery alert
The system has detected the storage capacity of the battery stated below to be very low
Primary (internal) battery (601)
Enter - continue startup
and after that, nothing happens, even when I press Enter. The system does not start. I am trying to reinstall it but it won’t boot from the CD. Can someone help me? Thank you

Configuration: Windows XP / Internet Explorer 7.0

You simply have a problem with your PC battery that is dead or has an issue..

Hi, there's an issue with the power, particularly with the battery.

Is your battery and charger worn out? Have you tried using just the battery? Plugging the charger into another outlet?

I'm mentioning this because I had the same problem with my sister's HP Pavilion dv7, and the cause turned out to be an outlet in my room that is very, very old (0.75 mm² section on a small fuse holder... a PC can't handle that ^^)

Actually, when I remove the battery and disconnect the internal battery, the message no longer appears and the system still doesn't start. I even try to reinstall it and it doesn't boot from the CD. Even with the configuration in the BIOS.

Your problem has nothing to do with the rest of the hardware; the diagnosis says it comes from the battery.  Normally, even with this issue, by pressing the Enter key your PC should start up....

I have the same error message that appeared today.

Additionally, I have noticed for a few weeks that the battery is malfunctioning: the computer often turns off by itself and doesn't always send me a message to indicate that the battery is low.

The computer is quite new, just 1 year old :-( I use it quite frequently but not 24/7, and I sometimes use it without the battery, just plugged in, precisely to save the battery!

Do you think that replacing the battery could be covered by the warranty, which is 2 years??
