Just like Flash, in fact, without Flash your PC works perfectly fine on its own.
Java is mainly used by developers or companies, but some websites have Java applications that require the Java client to be installed on your machine.
Some applications are also in Java.
It only takes up space and doesn't use any resources as long as it’s not running.
So you can absolutely keep it.

If you have done the Java updates, the problem is that it doesn’t automatically uninstall the old updates. So over time, it takes up space.
Otherwise, what you can do is uninstall all the versions present on your PC, and do this properly through the control panel.
Then download the latest version here:
https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase/upgrade.html
You accept the license, then select the version for your PC.
Then you install it :-)
