Problem displaying accents on PDF document

Question

Hello,  I have a recurring problem with PDF files when they contain the ARIAL font and accents. The characters with accents do not display correctly; they are replaced by strange characters and the text becomes unreadable. I initially thought it was an issue with my ARIAL font, so I installed the ARIAL fonts from my friend's computer since she doesn't have this problem. But it didn't help. Could it be due to a conflict between the different ARIAL fonts that are installed on my PC? (I have several: Ariel CE, Arial PC, Arial MT....).  If anyone can help me, that would be great because I can't find any solutions.  Thank you in advance.   Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 5.0

Hello Which software do you use to create/read PDF files? Adobe? Are you properly set up in French? -- Linux Mandriva 2010.0 Firefox 3.6.10

I tried opening the PDFs in Acrobat Reader and Acrobat Professional, and the problem persists. And I am properly set to the French language.

Hello When you say that the problem does not occur with your friend, are you referring to the same files, different ones, or PDFs in general? Did you create these files yourself*? What are the font properties of the PDF? ""Embedded"?  *If possible, can you send a small PDF file "accented characters test" via a hosting site? Linux Mandriva 2010.0 Firefox 3.6.10

I have issues with all the PDF files that use the ARIAL font, and every time I need to print such a PDF document, I have to do it from my friend's computer. The PDF documents are not necessarily created by me.

Generally, when the accents are not printed from a PDF, it is because the font has not been embedded in the file and the substitute fonts do not know how to compensate.. (perhaps a PDF that is not compliant with the standard)  Check in the printer driver that the fonts are properly downloaded and not substituted by the printer's fonts... As a last resort, check the "Bitmap" option in the print window of Acrobat, so that the page is printed as an image, (plus it will significantly speed up the printing speed)...  But if it's during viewing... the cases where I've already seen this problem are with PDF version 1.2... these old versions are no longer compatible with recent Readers, especially when they are also not compliant with the standard ...
