\windows\system32\config\system Solved

Question

Hello,
My computer is telling me that: Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\windows\system32\config\system

So I went to search on Microsoft and I found the following article that corresponds:

Now in the steps it indicates, there is one missing (that my computer does not ask for): the one where it asks me to enter the administrator password.

So when I typed the command

md tmp

it told me "access denied".
So what should I do, other than formatting the hard drive?!?

I had the same problem and after hours I realized that I simply had a faulty memory stick. Once I removed it, it started up. Phew!

Hello tlmd,
I’m providing you with a very simple solution.
Get a Linux Ubuntu CD; this will allow you to boot your PC/Laptop. Once you have access, retrieve all your files (Desktop, My Documents, etc.) and move them to the D partition or any other of your choice.
Once the recovery is complete, reinstall a new copy of Windows, and you’ll be good to go.

Hello everyone, a very simple solution to this problem of missing or corrupted Windows system 32 files is something I did:

1. If you have a Windows XP CD, proceed as if you were reinstalling the entire system and let the installation program on the CD copy the essential files for booting Windows until it indicates the partition(s) present on your hard drive; then at that exact moment, CANCEL the system installation and restart your PC. In my case, with XP Pro, this worked perfectly, no more messages about missing or damaged files and without having to do any DOS command manipulations. Of course, you need a CD of your OS; we can't stress enough that you should have one. If you don't have a CD-ROM, make a backup or a bootable ISO image of your hard drive, for example, in order to anticipate future problems. If I could help some of you, please don't hesitate to say so on the forum.
