Yes, the SGF FAT does not accept files larger than 2GB in size. You need to switch to Linux to partition using parted or gparted. But anyway, that's not the main problem... It doesn't even work with 1.2GB USB drives...

I followed another tutorial that you kindly recommended http://www.supinfo-projects.com/fr/2006/winxp_sur_usb_2006/2/ and now it boots, that's already something. However: blue screen when loading XP -.-" There's already some progress...

I used a different ISO and now it's booting ;D!!! However, I can't use the keyboard -.-". Have you experienced this problem? I need to integrate software into the ISO like OpenOffice, do you have any idea how to do that?

Thanks for your help.

I've never had any trouble getting my keyboard or BartPE to work before. Is it wireless? Silly question, are you on XP?

Personally, I don’t bother integrating software directly into the ISO; I just add a Utilities folder and include portable software from safe sites like:
https://portableapps.com/ (English)
http://pon.fr/ (French)
I think you'll need to create a plugin to integrate into the ISO with BartPE, French help here:

I'm booting on my laptop, so it's a pre-wired keyboard. I don't think there are any options to check to enable the keyboard when compiling BartPE.

Thanks for the links, I'll take a look at that. For portable software, you just need to put them in a folder at the root of the USB drive, and that's it, handy ;D

BartPE dates back to 2006, so in my opinion, you need an external keyboard (USB ones are recognized).

I was asking if you were using XP because it might be necessary, otherwise, to activate compatibility mode for PEtoUSB or even PEbuilder.

No, I produce the BartPE under W7.

Sure, can you try using Petousb in XP compatibility mode and use the BartPE folder I sent you, to see? I think you know, but I'm giving you the link ^^ : https://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/26404-changer-le-mode-de-compatibilite-des-logiciels
Because I still don't understand why it's not working, even with a small USB stick.

Well, it works when I put it on a drive that's less than 2GB. But as soon as I try to use my 32GB drive partitioned to 512MB, it doesn't work anymore. That is, it doesn't even boot -.- I can't figure it out anymore.

You mean it works with my bartPE, created under XP, and PetoUSB in XP compatibility mode?
OK, I'll make a note of it.

I have my ISO of XP SP1a SP2 and SP3 and it only works with SP3. Once under the live USB, how do you access the contents of your USB to access portable applications? When I launch cmd, bam blue screen... and it's the same for other functions, bam blue screen. And the keyboard still doesn't work... Is there anything special to configure with PEBuilder to activate the keyboard? When I look in the options, the keyboard is enabled though.

Normally, under BarPE, there is a kind of file explorer: A43 File Management Utility. Then, you open the folder and launch applications like under Windows.
Do you use legal ISOs or "slimmed down" ISOs obtained from the internet? Honestly...

EDIT: for your information, my integrated keyboard is recognized for my laptop, but it's from around 2006.
With Nlite, you can add your keyboard driver to the ISO, for example.

Edit bis: have you tried recompiling bartpe like this: right-click on PEbuilder.exe, "Run as administrator"?

No, but I'm going to try to run it as an administrator. I don't know how old the laptop is, but it's definitely newer than 2006 given the technology it has.

Yes, I'm using legal ISOs from MSDNAA. For your information, I've tested XP SP1a, SP2, and SP3, and only SP3 allows booting and avoids the blue screen at startup.

For A43, I tested by inserting portable Open Office, BAM, as soon as I click on the Open Office exe, blue screen. As soon as I open any command prompt and type anything in it, even if nothing shows up, as soon as I type on the keyboard, BAM, blue screen.

There are also quite a few things in the menu that won't launch.

As for the keyboard, uh, drivers... I don't see how to retrieve that.

It is possible to launch BarpPE, on Windows: go to the key, folder Programs, Nu2Menu, and launch nu2menu.exe
At the bottom left, you see the Bartpe launcher: GO
Then click on a43 File Management Utility

If it doesn't launch, right click, compatibility mode XP, run as Administrator.

If you still have issues, download the portable version of BartPE here: http://www.nu2.nu/download.php?sFile=pebuilder3110a.zip
Unzip it.
Right click on PEBUILDER.exe, compatibility mode XP.
Run it as administrator.
Create your Bartpe folder and an iso file, if possible.

Right click on the petousb.exe file, XP mode and Administrator.
Create your bootable key.

If it doesn’t work, you will need to burn your iso at someone's place or at your training (if I’m not mistaken^^) and test your CD.
Because right now, we don’t even know if the problem comes from the compilation or the key.
You can even borrow a USB keyboard or mouse, it would make things clearer ^^

Regarding drivers, SP3 contains many more drivers than SP2.
To retrieve your driver, there are software options, driverMax works on Windows 7.

Yo !

Good news! I tried with another key and everything is working perfectly. I made a C program that automates all the tasks, basically you fill in your .ini and your live works by itself ^^ If you’re interested, I can pass it on to you, I owe you that.

In any case, thanks for the help you gave me, it was really appreciated. As far as I know, I shouldn't have any other problems, but you never know. So I wish you all the best, man ;)

Hello,
do you know how to run BarpPE as an administrator?
My hard drive is no longer recognized in my BIOS, but it works on other computers, so it's not the hard drive, and it's not the SATA port either because another SATA drive is recognized.
So I want to update my BIOS (you never know, maybe a miracle!)
But BarpPE tells me that I need to be an administrator!
How can I do that? Is it possible?
Thank you for your help, I'm desperate.

Do you want to flash your BIOS using BartPE? o_O
Have you tried with another SATA cable? Were you able to boot from a BartPE CD or USB stick? In my opinion, this is a hardware issue.

Thank you for your response.
Yes, I tried 2 SATA cables, still nothing!
I can boot with USB BarpPE but not in administrator mode.
Flashing my BIOS has to be done in administrator mode, and that's where it gets stuck!
I have the new BIOS on my BarPE USB stick, but it's not that simple!
Do you have a solution?

Either use a floppy disk drive to flash the BIOS (if possible).
Or install Windows with another hard drive, then flash it.

Maybe your BIOS is tattooed, but I don't know anything about that. I don't know if using another disk would make it invisible.
Feel free to start a new discussion in the Hardware forum, because if reinstalling XP didn't help, I can't assist you further.

Thank you krazykat.
I hadn't thought of that solution, I have an old 4GB hard drive and I hope that's enough to install XP.
I'll test it and let you know the result.
Thanks again.

It's me again!
I couldn't install XP on my 4GB, but I found a 40GB IDE in my archives, great, installation of XP OK.
I was able to update my BIOS.
But the 250GB SATA hard drive is still not recognized, so it's going to the trash.
I just bought another one: WD 500GB 8MB cache (it's little but it will be enough), only €43, so I didn't hesitate.
So my problem is solved.
Thanks to everyone (and anyone) who helped me.

Trash?
It can still be useful to others, since it is recognized elsewhere ^^

Yes, if you want, I can sell it for cheap, but who would want it?
It only works via USB, what could its price be?

krazykat Posted messages 15983 Registration date   Status Modérateur Last intervention   2 145

Cheap, indeed, the new ones sell for 40 to 50 Euros...
You can keep it as a backup disc, for example.

Yes, indeed it can be useful to me one day; I will keep it to save data on an external hard drive via USB.
Thank you for the info.
