Hello to you, didier_68,
Can you tell us which version of XFree you want to upgrade from and to?
You are using Debian, so if you have a decent internet connection, you should be able to do (as root):
But be careful, if I'm not mistaken, the latest versions of XFree are no longer GPL, so they are no longer included in Debian. If you want a graphical server, I recommend X.Org (http://www.x.org) which is GPL.
See you later

Thank you for your response
The problem is that I haven't installed the connection yet so I need to download it with Windows.
As for the version of xfree, I was planning to install version 4.3, but I saw on the website that version 4.4 has been released, so I think I will rather lean towards the latter
In fact, I mainly need to change the version because my graphics card is not recognized (ati).
What is the difference between xorg and xfree?
One more small question: is it possible to stay on stable while installing this new version of xfree or is it mandatory to switch to sid? (because this is for my studies and the teachers say to stay on stable, but if it doesn't work, there's no choice!!
Thanks in advance)

Are there Debian packages for Xorg? (Sorry, I don't have apt on hand to do the search...)
And what are the differences (apart from the license, which I think is already quite a lot) between these two X servers? I had Xorg on Mandrake and I have XFree on Debian, I don't see any technical difference...
