How to execute a through ball???

Hello,
I've had this game for not long and I absolutely can't make a player run for the ball like I used to in PES 6. I'm playing in normal mode (not Master League or anything).
I looked in the controls:
Request the ball: 2 X RT > none of my teammates make a run for the ball. In my opinion, this command is meant for Master League when controlling a player who doesn't have the ball, right?
This means I'm forced to wait for the AI to decide to make a run for me to make a through pass, and it's super frustrating! My attacks are not effective and the teams I face are doing it.
Can someone explain it to me?
