Insert an attachment from a shortcut

Hello,
I am the IT manager of a school and the secretary uses Outlook Express.
With her computer, when I want to send an attachment, I click on insert an attachment, go to the desktop and when I click on a folder (which is a shortcut), instead of opening the folder, it copies the shortcut. So my attachment ends up being the shortcut of the folder and not the file I'm interested in. I tried mapping the folder as a network drive but the same issue occurs, I can’t open the network drive, I only have the shortcut link.
Has anyone ever encountered this problem? Is there a solution?
Thank you for your help.

P.S.: If possible, I would prefer not to change software as the secretary has her habits and does not want everything to change.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

It is normal that if you copy a shortcut as an attachment, it is the shortcut that will be sent... If you want to send the folder, you need to go find it on your network at the exact location, or create a copy locally; it is not convenient, it is true.
