Hello, I pulled out an old PC to replay Age Of Mythology.
Everything was fine until now, even though the PC is a bit old, it was running well and everything.
I launched the game twice, playing for about one or two hours each time.
However, during the third launch, just after the intro before the menu appeared, an error message popped up: Initialization failed.
The only reason I can think of for not being able to launch the game anymore is that during the second launch, I saved a game (which I hadn't done during my first launch). Anyway, that's the only thing that seems to me to be the cause of this error message.
Anyway, if someone knows how I can relaunch the game, I'm all ears.
Otherwise, I'll have no choice but to uninstall and reinstall the game (I would prefer not to have to do that because back in the day I installed it with the CD that I no longer have, and if I reinstall it, it will be with the Microsoft games files where Age of Mythology is located that I put on a USB stick).
Moreover, in that folder, there is also an Age of Mythology Upgrade program. I don’t think I need to run it since the game was working without any upgrades. But you never know, I’m giving you all the information.

PS: the PC is running Windows XP. I've read similar things regarding this error message, and the problem could be coming from Avast, which is installed on my PC, but I didn't quite understand. Thanks so much if you have the solution!

You just had to go to the Microsoft games folder, in the Age of Mythology folder --> Diagnostic, and run Age of Mythology video without risks.
However, another problem is that when I launch the game, there is sound during the intro cutscenes, but once I get to the menu, there's no sound at all. I tried running Age Of Mythology without sound (which is also found in diagnostics) but that one doesn't work. It's a bit of a shame because I really think the sound in this game is important. So here you go, a big problem solved, but a small one still persists so if you have any ideas about that, thank you very much.
