Difference in value between Ko and KB

Hello,

I’m posting here to get some information and, if possible, a suggestion for correcting my problem.

First of all, I want to say that I’m not at all familiar with IT terminology. I am connected to a Wi-Fi network, without Ethernet access, called Smartcampus_WiFirst in a university residence, without access to the modem.

So... "Difference between Ko and KB"... I have made two distinct downloads and noticed that the values used during these two downloads are not the same: Ko for streaming a video and KB for downloading an online game.
My problem lies here: the first varies greatly and can go from 250 Ko/s to 22 Ko/s without any change (opening a web page or anything) on my part, while the other remains stable with a good speed, at 550 KB/s.

Why does one of them fluctuate like that? It's very annoying because at certain times it drops to 0 Ko/s and the loading stops.

Is there a way to stabilize the first at a good speed? Or to balance both?

Thank you for your responses, as quick as they may be.

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 41.0

Hello

Ko = kilobyte (1 Ko = 8 Kb)
Kb = kilobits

The download speed fluctuates but there's nothing we can do about it.
The more people there are online, the slower the speed gets.

Certainly, but why such a difference between the values of these two downloads?

It can also depend on the amount of information exchanged on the server where the data is.

Is there really no solution to my problem? As long as there are a lot of people on the network, will I have a bad connection speed?

And no, there are no solutions.
You just have to download the items at times when there are fewer people.

I noticed that a long streaming video loaded at a high speed of 1-2 MB/s while a short video had a low speed...
Any explanation?
