Hello everyone.
I have created a server on Windows Server 2012 Standard and, for once, everything went well. However, I now want my PC running Windows 8 Pro to join the domain: homegroup.fr
But every time I get this error:
Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not the administrator of your network, please contact your administrator and inform them that you have received this information, which has been logged in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.
The following error occurred when querying DNS for the SRV (Service Location) resource record to locate an Active Directory domain controller for the domain homegroup.fr:
The error was: "The DNS name does not exist."
(error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
The request was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.homegroup.fr
The causes of this error may include:
- The required DNS SRV records to locate an Active Directory domain controller for the domain are not registered in DNS. These records are automatically registered by a server when an Active Directory domain controller is added to the domain. They are updated by the Active Directory domain controller at defined intervals. This computer is configured to use DNS servers with the following IP addresses:
192.168.1.1
- One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to their child zone:
homegroup.fr
fr
. (root zone)
I am not an IT expert but I manage, however, I am really stuck.... I am truly lost :'(((
I hope you can help me...
Thank you in advance :)
Best regards,
Vincent.
PS: If I add a domain to my PC, I hope I won't lose anything on it?
Configuration: Windows 8 / Chrome 45.0.2454.93

192.168.1.1 should be the DNS server address of your ISP Box.
The IP address of the DNS server for your W8 PC should be that of the Server 2012 PC.
Moreover, on the DNS server of your Server 2012 PC, you need to set up a redirect to 192.168.1.1 so that your W8 PC can access the DNS servers of your ISP for Internet.

Hello
It's a DNS issue.
Is your 2012 server and your Win8 PC on the same local network?
Are they emulated in VMs?
Can they ping each other?
Try adding the IP address of the 2012 server in the hosts file of Win8...
or install a DNS server on the 2012 server, and tell the Win8 to use it...

Hello,
DNS issue highlighted for Pjil2k.
The client machine is trying to resolve homegroup.fr but is likely querying your router.
The router provides a response, but it is incorrect.
You have chosen an Internet domain name for your domain, which explains the error. (There is a result - error or ok - given by DNS, but it comes from the Internet DNS).
Point your client's primary DNS to your Windows server...
The hosts files are just for testing; otherwise, we forget them in long-term cases.

Using a registry "compactor" on top of a registry "cleaner" would be equivalent to rinsing your throat with a swig of Jack Daniels after swallowing a pint of snake oil....

Hello everyone and thank you :)
So first of all, yesterday when I wrote my message I forgot to create an account which means I don't have the same username anymore...
Then I did what you told me and it works :) but... there is still a problem.
When I enter my domain everything works. It asks me for IDs, I enter them but after a while with nothing displayed, I get an error message. This one:

I hope you can still help me. Anyway, thanks again ^^
Best regards,
Vincent.
