SolidWorks Installation Issue Solved

Question

Hello,

I recently tried to install SolidWorks unsuccessfully on my computer because every time I get an error in the middle of the installation: "the Windows Installer program failed to install Bonjour." I realized that it was probably a problem with my permissions for the Program Files folder. Indeed, I tried to install Bonjour manually and I have the same issue. I should mention that I am the administrator of the computer.

Hello,
I finally managed to install SolidWorks.
As you suggested, I looked into my PC's properties. In particular, I was intrigued that the "Programs" folder was written in green. After some research, it turned out that this folder was encrypted. By unchecking the encryption for this folder in "Properties," the installation of SolidWorks as an administrator worked.

Are you sure that the version of Solidworks is compatible with the Windows you are using?

Furthermore, if Windows or its upgrade is not authentic, you may encounter installation issues.

Likewise, if you are using a non-authentic version of Solidworks.

Did you perform the installation as an administrator? I don't doubt that you are one, but did you carry out the installation procedure with a right-click?

If you have "simply" left-clicked, the authorization message is standard, but some programs require you to install them as an administrator by right-clicking on the installation file and choosing "run as administrator" from the menu.

I don't know if this will solve the problem, but it's worth a try.

Regarding the file mentioned in the error message, I found this link:

which reports a potential virus concerning this file. It might be a good idea to run antivirus software or follow the recommended procedure on this page, which is indeed in English but offers a potential solution.

If we assume that a parameter "prevents" installation on this PC, the solution would be to try installing on another PC. The problem is that if it succeeds, you might not be able to uninstall to reinstall on the correct PC. Given the price of this program, that would be a shame.

Alternatively, if you bypass the block indicated in your message, you could cancel the installation before it completes (you shouldn't do this carelessly, of course; it depends on when the error message appears).

There’s also the "solution" of reinstalling Windows, if possible from a factory restore partition on your PC (if you can back up your files and folders without it being too much work)

This would allow you to reinstall Solidworks on a regenerated system.

I don't know if customer service is included in the product price. As a last resort, the publisher might be able to resolve the situation.

I am happy about that. It will be easier to try to solve the problem on your end. It could be a Windows update issue, but I don't believe so, knowing that if you haven't disabled Windows update, updates are either automatically installed or offered to you as they come.

It may be related to a framework like dotnet, which installs in successive versions, and these versions shouldn’t be deleted as each version works with a specific category of software. This only applies if Solidworks is written in that environment, which I do not know. This can be checked by launching the "Programs" module in the control panel.

You can only proceed by analysis:

- Are the two operating systems identical?
- Are their updates at the same level?
- Does the development environment of Solidworks require a "layer" installed on each of the two PCs? You will need to read the configuration specifications for Solidworks.
- Would reinstalling W7 (if you have a recovery partition) allow you to restore a "healthy" configuration?
- As a last resort, would it perhaps be "simpler" to leave Solidworks on the PC where it works?
