Hi! I want to make a sort of short film and I need a werewolf.
I'm using AfterEffects as my effects software and I would like to know how to create a good transformation and something quite realistic after the transformation. If you have other software for doing this kind of stuff, feel free to share.
Thank you for your help.

It's quite complex as a special effect: the hair growing, the jaw elongating, the face distorting, the teeth transforming...
I'm wondering if it wouldn't be easier to do it for real. Especially since After won't help you with that; it will be way too complex. And I'm only talking about the transformation; if you want to have a werewolf that moves and everything afterward... you'll need 3D (3DS Max, C4D, or something else), but that's also going to require a level that’s way too high (modeling, texturing, and animation...)
The simplest solution is to hire a makeup artist. And here, several options are available to you: either you use editing to show the different stages of the transformation (I recommend you watch An American Werewolf in London). Or you use the good old off-screen method, meaning you only suggest the transformation (using shadows, soundtracks, etc... I also advise you to take a look at this method online or films like Cat People and plenty of others); you never show the transformation directly and let the audience imagine the scene; sometimes it's more effective and more terrifying than seeing a plastic monster or poorly done 3D.
In any case, forget about SFX; I don't think it's at your level for this effect, it's really complex. -
Thank you very much! In the meantime, I went to check online and on YouTube for 3ds etc... I even saw a video of someone doing it on 3ds Max, but it's too complicated. So I thought I would use the off-screen method, which seems to be the best, especially since it’s a series, so the transformations need to be quick and efficient. (The clip of MJ's Thriller, when he lowers his head and then lifts it up and his teeth appear as well as the color of his eyes) that scene is a good example. I'll also have a vampire, so I'm going to do the same thing.
I have a makeup artist with me and we’re going to buy everything we need (the teeth, professional lenses, etc...). This method was planned ;) Thanks again.
And I know An American Werewolf in London, it's even one of my favorite werewolf movies, very well made.
