I received a call from the police?

Hello,
I would like to know if the police or the gendarmerie have the right to make a call on a mobile phone? I received a call from the central police station in Mulhouse with a private number? So if it's the police, why is the number private (hidden)? Thank you for responding.

    Well! I think you can respond without knowing who is on the other end of the line!! They know very well that certain people won't answer if the police station number is displayed, simply out of fear!! But anyway, if you haven't done anything wrong... normally when they need information about a particular case that could concern you, they send a summons in the mailbox, but calling is always possible.
