Hello everyone, advice for beginner, intermediate, and professional pianists...

I am going to start piano and I would like to know if the famous Alcalay method that can be found on this site: http://www.digui.com/enplus.htm

I am asking if it is reliable (considering its price!) if anyone has already heard of it or tried the same...

I do not agree with all of you.
I bought and followed this method.
It is simple, even simplistic, that's true, but for someone like me who just wants to have a bit of fun without overthinking it, it's very good.
By the way, I'm moving on to the second year.
But be careful, it still requires some work and tenacity.

Having just retired, I started learning the piano.
I tried the Alcalay method for 3 months, but I was disappointed.
Not feeling like I was developing good habits, and not finding a serious piano teacher nearby, I tried a new correspondence method that I heard about on this forum:

Yes, there's nothing like a teacher....
There won't be a one-size-fits-all method, but an adaptive method that evolves with the progress of the beginner pianist. The teacher will choose exercises (Czerny, others...), suitable pieces, and additionally, all of this may take into account what the student wants to play, making it so much more stimulating!

I am sorry for those who are satisfied with the blah blah blah, this method is perfect, but too expensive in the end. There are many methods on the market that yield good results. Go to Play Music, there are good methods to progressively learn the piano and it will cost you much less. I am not advertising to encourage those who want to learn the piano or another instrument, but everyone has their own method.

In clear terms, to learn piano well, at least to master the basics and play well, it is better to go through a teacher and learn music theory.

Nonsense !! Music theory the best school !! pff It's like saying you have to learn to write before you can talk !! It's definitely not the most creative method... and I think there's some conservatory influence behind this.

+1, a teacher is very difficult to replace, if not impossible to replace.

For a method, I recommend the touching method of Marie Jaëll. It has been widely adopted in music initiation courses for younger students, and for good reason... But it is mainly a pedagogical approach that is much more logical than Cartesian approaches based on endless scales and methods focused on "more and more technique" at the expense of interpretation and musical expression.

I have never gone to music school for piano and I am the only musician in my family. And today I am embarking on releasing an album. I am self-taught and that has helped me. Sometimes music schools can be useless, you see. But indeed, it is advisable for less confident beginners to take a teacher.
You can also work on your musical ear so that you develop perfect pitch and then you will manage :p
My cousin who is learning piano is using a site called "piano facile" and he is making great progress.

I used their website's method to learn how to play the piano, but especially because I wanted to learn how to read music so I could be autonomous. Honestly, very satisfied!
There are simple classical pieces, but also blues and jazz arrangements.

I'm going to answer honestly, I listened to the first melody. It's not really a good school since it's in the C major scale, so there are no black keys. The easiest scale! But then, having learned with this base, you can't play everything you want!
I studied solfège and piano in the C major scale over 20 years ago, I regret it. Now I play by ear!
