Hello,
Is there a key in the registry that prevents the movement of desktop icons?
Thank you.

    Hello.

    In 32-bit, there is this

    For Win95 / Win98 / Win98SE / WinME / NT4 / Win2000 / WinXP

Practical tip Here’s a very simple way to save and restore the position of your desktop icons.

Download this archive from the MS Windows NT 4.0 Resource Kit. It includes the two files that we are interested in here (these files are free but no support is provided). Unzip the zip and place the Layout.dll file in the Windows\System folder (for Win9x/ME) or in Windows\System32 (for WinNT/2000/XP).
Then double-click the Layout.reg file to merge it into the registry.

You can now save the position of your desktop icons by right-clicking on an icon (it can be My Computer, Recycle Bin, or any other icon or folder placed on the desktop except a file or a shortcut).

The context menu will then display two new options:
    - Save Desktop Icon Layout: save the icon positions
    - Restore Desktop Icon Layout: restore the icon positions

Very simple tip but extremely practical!

    download

    Layout.DLL and Layout.REG
