DNS Error 80710723 when updating my PS3 Solved

Question

Hello everyone !! I have a update issue (2.41)  with my PS3. So let me explain :: :::} when launching the update everything goes well, the update starts but I don't understand why at a certain point (it can happen at 2%, 28%, 45%, or even 56%) it stops and I get  DNS error 80710723  I have tried several times but always the same problem !!!!!  I should add that I have a Wi-Fi connection  with my Livebox   that's it !! I hope someone can find a solution that would be cool  PS: for more details about my PS3 connection, you know where to find me !!!!!!

Well, it's resolved for me... PHEW!!!
After browsing through numerous forums, I found a solution...
I went to the configuration of my Livebox (you will need the IP address of your PS3 which you can find in the network tab of the PS3). And I opened ports (TCP and UDP) that were not already open.
Here is the list of TCP/UDP Ports to open in order to fully enjoy the PS3 live experience. (non-exhaustive list)

TCP: 80, 443, 5223
UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658

Procedure to follow:
Server name: ps3
Access enabled: No Yes

Protocol: TCP or UDP (cf. list above)
From port: to port:
Local IP address:

Ex:
Protocol: TCP
From port: 80 to port: 80
IP address: that of your PS3

Then, I restarted my Livebox and my PS3 and there was a MIRACLE, the update worked...
I hope that for the next updates, I won't have any issues...

Sony has announced that it will repair consoles that were damaged by firmware update 2.4 for free.
A normal gesture, but always appreciated.

Many will surely find this normal since Sony and its controversial firmware had damaged some PS3s that could no longer boot or suffered from random error messages (see "New PS3 firmware withdrawn"). Certainly, Sony quickly removed firmware 2.4 from its download site, but the damage was done. Nevertheless, this initiative is welcome.

Do-It-Yourself?

Before this announcement, we recommended that you remove the hard drive from the console, reformat it, and replace it in the unit which will ask you to reformat it, in order to avoid repair costs. Now that the repair is free, you can send your console to Sony, which will surely do the same. So even if the procedure is free, it is up to you to decide if paying for shipping and waiting weeks to get your console back is worth it. In any case, make sure to back up your saves if you can. Don't think that Sony will do it for you if you ever send it in.

As a reminder, know that Sony has released version 2.41 of its firmware that no longer crashes the PS3, but it does not fix consoles that are already locked by version 2.4 (see "New firmware sooner than expected for the PS3").

Hello everyone,
I also have the same issue with the update 2.42.
Indeed, I start it up and it's always between 30 and 50% that an error message appears.
It's the same one as yours, namely server connection error 80710723...
I don't know what to do. Should I wait for the next update? Does anyone have a solution?

Hello,  Problem solved, I downloaded the latest firmware from the official Sony website, put it on a USB drive and then installed it on the PS3.  Best regards  NiCROW

I had the same issue when installing the CoD 5 update (error code 80710723). In the NETWORK SETTINGS, I simply disabled the MEDIA SERVER CONNECTION and everything went back to normal, I was able to update. Good luck everyone!

The solution to your problem is simple, just go to the DNS settings of your PS3 (you need to go through the internet connection setup menu) and manually enter the codes:

Primary DNS: 208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS: 208.67.220.220

And you're good to go.

I also had this problem, try disconnecting the wireless connection and connecting your PS3 to your modem with an Ethernet cable.
