How to insert a photo with a transparent background (photoshop)

Hello,

I retrieved a photo of a sun on a transparent background and would like to copy/paste it onto another photo, but when I proceed as usual with Photoshop (Photo A select all - Edit/copy - open Photo B Edit/paste), Photo A (the sun) ends up pasted with the checkerboard background!

How should I do so that the checkerboard background of the sun does not appear on Photo B (the destination for the sun)?

  1. Hello again,

The AI's answer didn't help me...

It's at the level of selecting the sun on a checkerboard background (Photoshop) where I’m stuck. If I choose “Select All,” it copies the sun and the checkerboard; if I select the subject, Photoshop doesn’t recognize it (not large enough: the sun photo isn’t as sharp as a drawing and appears ethereal without very clear edges, hence the likely difficulty...

I thought that by downloading a sun image A in .png (RGB mode) and doing "select" → "select all" in Photoshop, the transparency checkerboard would be truly transparent and not appear on image B when pasted on top. Unfortunately, I get both the sun and the checkerboard, which is useless to me...

      Hello,

Maybe your checkerboard is not transparency but a real checkerboard. You should try with another image with transparency.

      1. Hello Jee Pee,

        Thank you for your message.

I tried with your image and it works very well. That said, it is a drawing with clearly defined outlines.

The image I tried to overlay on another photo was a sun photo (with not-very-defined contours) on a checkerboard background, presented as an image with a transparent background (png). I tested with several other photos of this kind, but every time the checkerboard ended up stuck to the sun photo, as if it were a real checkerboard. With sun drawings, there’s no problem. In my opinion, when it’s an image with poorly defined contours, there must be another trick I’m missing...

You should share your image to see.

There are plenty of images on the internet, they are now mostly paid, or you have to sign up. I found some, as you indicated with a background that looks like transparency, but isn’t.

Let's try to work with this image. IMG2, with the magic wand, and lots of trial-and-error on the settings, we select the background. We invert the selection, copy and paste into the sky. Reproducing faithfully all the filaments of the sun would require a lot of work, too much, in the selection process on IMG2.

You can also try, to remove the background, the site:   It has been around for a long time, but I just read that it will disappear on December 1st.

It's a bit better than what I did.
