Euro-Office, new European open-source office suite

A consortium of nine European companies has launched Euro-Office, an open-source office suite. This initiative aims to compete with Google Workspace and Microsoft 365. Euro-Office offers a platform that allows users to create and edit documents directly from a web browser, promotes collaborative work, and takes data security into account. However, this newcomer is not universally accepted in the free software domain, sparking criticism, particularly from the Document Foundation, which accuses Euro-Office of not acknowledging the merits of pioneering open-source office suites. What do you think? Can Europe truly offer a credible alternative to the American software giants?

    Euro Office.

    First of all, why give it an English name? The office suite could just as well be called "Euro Office."

    The same criticism can perhaps be made of LibreOffice and OpenOffice.

    The European community is proposing a plagiarism of the Russian system without naming it. This point is profoundly unacceptable. The core of this office suite is the complete creation of Russian developers. 

    Furthermore, this system proposed by the EU authority to all member countries relocates users' data to a server. This is not acceptable. 

    In France, the first independent office suite is not LibreOffice but OPEN OFFICE. LibreOffice is a version of OpenOffice, with additional functions and a much less simple presentation than OPEN OFFICE. OpenOffice is still operational; its ergonomics are much more practical and fluid than all other systems.

    Another future European bureaucratic nightmare.

    When LibreOffice is perfectly fine, why complicate things unnecessarily?

      Because LibreOffice and OpenOffice are of American origin and the dogma is European digital sovereignty

      As far as I understand, this is an online solution (meaning the servers must also be European) reminiscent of Microsoft 365, and therefore cannot be directly compared to the previous two, which would rely on not autonomous but joint use of other online projects.

      The idea is commendable; I don't know if it's a complex system, but even if it is, we cannot decently expect something that has just emerged to have the same level of maturity as what has existed for years. What is probably more debatable is this exclusive online use.

      What's amusing is that apparently, at least for now, one has to go through the Great Satan to use it.
