Big problem with dell inspiron 5640d black screen flashing bios

Hello,

I tried to flash the BIOS, but the problem is it cut off during the installation. The issue is that I don't have a bin file; I only have exe or rcv files, but the screen is black and I can't reflash it.

I bought a CH314A programmer, and I can access the chip, it's visible, but I can't flash it because I don't have a bin file. What can I do, please? Thank you.

    Hello,

You can search directly for a dump:

    Type into Google:

motherboard name + bios bin dump

    Example:

    X670E Creator bios bin dump

    You can find them on:

    specialized forums
    repair sites

    Attention:
take exactly the same model + revision

If you want I can try to look it up:

Give me the EXACT model of your motherboard or PC
BIOS chip reference (written on it)
The files you have (.exe, .rcv, etc.)

      And I can:
find the right BIN file for you
or tell you exactly what to extract

    Hello

    It's a laptop apparently..

Why exactly did you want to flash it? Dell transfers major updates for the BIOS via Microsoft's Windows update, so there is no need to force an update.

Can you elaborate on the "cut off during installation" because the way the flash finished also determines how to recover (when it's possible). It's important to keep in mind that sometimes it's irreversible.

For the file, if it's a .exe or .rcv, the structure for a BIOS file will be identical, you can try simply renaming it to .bin and see if it works, you won't risk anything.

Another point, USB readers for chips like the CH314a are not really compatible with modern PC BIOS, and a proper BIOS programming system costs several hundred euros, not 10 or 15...

I wanted to update the BIOS to add more RAM, but in the end, I unplugged the cable and the battery was dead. Now I have a black screen, an orange blinking light, and 6 white lights. I do have the RCV or EXE files from Dell, but I don't have the BIN file because I bought a CH341A USB programmer with a clip to read the chip, and it reads fine. I can detect my BIOS with the RCV or EXE files, but it doesn't work; I need the 32KB BIN file. That's why I'm looking for a not-too-old Dell Inspiron 5640D 2024. Thank you very much.

PS: Don't worry, the clip and all won't block during the flash. I even renamed the RCV file to BIN, but got an error at the end; I suspected this since the file isn't 32KB. Best regards, my chip is a W25Q256FV Winbond with the CH341A programmer software.

    Hello,

You say you have the .exe, but not the .bin

With 7-Zip, can you find the .bin inside the .exe?

    https://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Otherwise, by executing it (on a virtual PC) in %Temp% of the virtual PC (VirtualBox)

You can extract the .bin one way or another.

Run the .exe without actually installing the BIOS, if possible; otherwise, on a virtual machine it's safer.

And go look for the files in C:\Users\YourName\AppData\Local\Temp

      (Hidden folder)

I've already tried in the temp file, nothing appeared, I don't understand that.

Big change, I'm going to have to buy a new chip and change it, right?
