Hello, my Acer Aspire XC 780 desktop doesn't turn on following a deliberate power outage. I first shut down my PC, then cut the power, and now it won't turn on anymore. There is power because I get a little shock when I touch the back of the computer next to the power cord connection. Best regards.

    Hello.

    Just because you get a shock when touching the metal part doesn't mean there's current; it could be residual energy.

    The best way to know is to plug another device into the same outlet and see if it lights up.

    If it doesn't light up, check the electrical panel to see if the relevant circuit breaker is up or if it still has its fuse in good condition.

    There is indeed current coming in, the power I'm getting is not residual because when I unplug the cord, there is none left and I have turned off the main power, I haven't touched the breaker. Moreover, I plugged a device into the computer socket and it works very well;

      It is possible that the transformer (incorporated into your computer tower) did not withstand the power surge, and that an internal fuse in this transformer did its job as a buffer (in the best case).

      If it is accessible after disassembling the transformer, you can change it; if it is not, you need to change the transformer (about €100).

      But first, and only if you have certain skills, it would be good to check the output voltage (DC) with a multimeter at the wires coming out of the transformer that connect to the motherboard, and only if you have the skills, otherwise ask a knowledgeable friend.

      Question: Is there at least a small light appearing on the front of the computer?

      Hello,

      The motherboard might have taken quite a hit as well as the power supply due to this outage.

      You should disconnect everything, USB, mouse/keyboard, RAM stick, hard drive, etc..., try to test the power supply using the paperclip method and check that the fan is running.

      Then press the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any static electricity.

      Reconnect only the power supply and try to power it on again.

      Fan not spinning > risk of overheating depending on usage time.

      But this is due to a voluntary shutdown.

      So it's more about the possibility of a buffer effect from the power supply.

      IF you choose to make a new purchase, data recovery from the old disk is always possible on the new one, either through external enclosures connectable via USB, or by adding it to the new PC.

      A 500 w power supply costs €45, a fan costs €15, and €30 for labor since it takes less than 30 minutes to change everything. So he's pocketing a lot.

        The dismantling time is a bit longer but that doesn't justify a price of 425 unless the heatsink is 2 to 3 times more expensive than the power supply, and even then I'm far off. For €475 you can find second-hand ones.

      If they are empty, they are no longer operational, so you can uninstall them using, for example, Revo Uninstaller.
