Hello everyone


I have Windows 11 and I'm reaching out to you (once again) because I have a problem


.I take photos with a Canon PowerShot A40 and my photos come with the CTG extension that I'm not familiar with and I would like to convert my photos to JPG.
If anyone has an idea, I would be grateful.

    Hello,

    The .CTG files are not images but catalog files.

    You probably haven't looked in the right place.

    When you check the contents of the SD card, there is usually a DCIM folder that contains other folders with the photos and a CANONMSC folder that contains the .CTG files.

    Hello Pierr10

    I have arrived safely at CANONmsc and when I try to open the CTG files with "open with" I can't find which application I need (before we had a long dropdown list where we could find the applications). I tried Word but it doesn't work and I can't get rid of Word and replace it with something else, how do I do that?

    I'm sorry for my ignorance but I'm not in my youth anymore and for me, the PC is a bit of a mystery box.

      Hello,

      Don’t try to open the .CTG files. They are likely used for organizing photos, but they do not contain the photos.

      The photos are in the other folders within DCIM. See my screenshot in my first reply.

    My response is late due to an Office issue, please excuse me.


    I started over from the beginning with the memory card from my camera.
    I have DCIM and I'm getting the yellow files which are from 2010/2014 and at the bottom CANONMSC click and there I can see the CTG files dated 19/02/25 (my latest photos) but I can't go any further because I don't know how to open them.
    I'm not very comfortable with the Internet although I have made good progress thanks to CCM but mostly on Word which I use every day.
    I’m counting on your expertise to help me resolve my problem, thank you in advance.

    I have DCIM and I'm getting the yellow files, and they are from 2010/2014

    These are not files, but folders. You need to click on each folder to open it and see the photos it contains.

    In the screenshot, we can see the contents of folder 201_0806 (a subfolder of DCIM). It contains photos that are directly visible and raw files that need to be processed. You probably don't have any raw files.

    I will try to send you some screenshots but it's not going to be easy!!! And no, it didn't work.

    In DCIM, I do have yellow folders but they contain old photos, and if I open one of these yellow folders, I can see my photos (JPG).

    In DCIM > CANON MSC, I do have the photos from 2025, but they are CTG files that I can't open.

      Hello,

      I have already explained to you that there are no photos in CANONMSC.

      So don't go into that folder, you won't find anything other than the catalog files that are used for managing the photos.

      In the last screenshot I sent, you can see the "Modified on" column that allows you to know the date the photos were taken.

      If you are still having trouble, I will indicate another way to proceed.

      You connect the camera to the computer with a USB cable and turn it on.

      Then, you open the Photos app from Windows that is certainly installed on your computer.

      Normally your camera should appear in the left column. By clicking on its name, you initiate the search for photos. This may take some time.

      Then click on Import at the top right, then on the name of your camera.
      You can then select the photos to import or import all of them.

      When you have finished the selection, click on Add. You will then be prompted to choose the import folder.

      Click on Import to start the process.

      It's a simple method that works well.

    Hello and thank you for your always quick response. I’m getting worked up every morning and not making any progress.


    Unfortunately, my camera is not recognized by the PC.

    I’ve also thought about all of this from the beginning. I’ve always taken a lot of pictures and transferred them to my image folder where they arrived without any problem in JPG. So I’m wondering: why are the latest ones coming in CTG?

    I think that’s where the problem lies. But I don’t have a better solution. I’m close to giving up before I go crazy!!!!

      Hello, I'm coming to the rescue because you are not calmly reading the messages from

      Pierre 10, here's some additional information

      You connect your camera to the USB port of your computer, you will find on the left in the tree structure of your computer a new name 'USB drive', double click on it "private", click continue and choose DCIM, that's where your photos are located and nowhere else, click finally and you will have the photo files, select and copy-paste them into your Photo folder

      I have tried my best to detail the steps, I hope it’s understandable

      If you film or take photos with a phone, do as I do, create a Google account and Google Photos, your files will be automatically transferred via the web wirelessly and with 15GB of free storage

    Don't worry about your age. I wasn't born with the Internet, far from it.

    I advise you to go over what I explained in my message <8> after the dotted lines: using the Windows Photos app.
    It's really simple and it should work.

    Hello to both of you and thank you for your responses

    This morning I got back to my photos and I restarted from my memory card and there it was, a miracle, my photos came through in JPG. I had always saved my photos this way (over 3000) and I don't understand why it hadn't worked before.

    So my problem is solved
