Save your bookmarks (important)

Uninstall Chrome via the control panel > Programs and features

Then search for %LocalAppData% and delete the Google folder

Reinstall Chrome, and import your bookmarks..

Place a .png file of the avatar named after the account in C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Account Avatars

You need to show hidden files and folders in the File Explorer options (View > Options > View).

I eventually understood why the avatar does not display in Settings.

Even though we can question the last W11 update that broke the avatar image.

From PC to PC that I maintain, I noticed with certainty that the avatar

disappeared in Settings and only under a Local account, and not on a Microsoft account.

The cause is the backup of the Microsoft account settings with a local account (all settings are greyed out).

I changed my PC to a local account due to a various issue, so I switched back to a Microsoft account.

I did try some troubleshooting patches like message 6, which I had found the workaround for well before its release.

Reminder of the problem:

Avatar disappeared in Settings.

The procedure from message 6 did not work.

Even changing the avatar photo from the Microsoft account accessible online.

It only works partially, the avatar is indeed changed for instance on the login screen or the Start button or even in the Microsoft store, but on the other hand, it does not appear in Settings.

Decision made -► Switch back to Microsoft account

Many tutorials on the web are outdated, even obsolete.

The procedure is not as straightforward as one might think.

Switching from a Local account to a Microsoft account:

* The main information is that with a local account, personalized settings are not saved.

The procedure:

Settings --► Accounts --► Your Info
Section --► Account settings
=► Sign in instead with a Microsoft account

In the following dialog box, enter your Microsoft account password, click next.

Restart the PC.
